Description
In the past, you might have bought Christmas presents for your spouse, your children, your grandchildren, your dog and your great aunt Mildred, but have you ever given a gift to your garden? Now might be a good time to start, because this Christmas Box is an evergreen shrub that's sure to brighten up those bare, December borders. If you've missed the festive season, there's no need to panic: from the white, deliciously scented flowers that appear in November to the neat, glossy leaves that remain long after the blooms disappear in May, Sarcococca hookeriana var. humilis looks fantastic all year round. This Dwarf Sweet Box provides great groundcover in cottage and woodland gardens and even tolerates dry and shady areas. If you want to display the plant more prominently (and, let's face it, who wouldn't?), you could even grow it into a low hedge. Wherever it's planted, pollinators are sure to flock throughout the winter, for this suckering shrub has a well-deserved place on the RHS perfect for pollinators list. Height: 1m (3'3"). Spread: 1m (3'3").

How to Grow
Grow sarcococca in any moist, well drained garden soil in a sheltered position, in semi-shade or shade. Christmas box will tolerate full sun provided that the soil remains moist. Alternatively grow sarcococca plants in patio containers using soil based compost such as John Innes No.3.
More Info
Feed and water regularly until young shrubs become established. Once established, Sarcococca will require little attention and often thrives on neglect. Pruning is not required other than to shape the plant if required, and to remove any unwanted suckers from the base of the plant.
