Photinia x fraseri 'Red Robin' produces a dazzling display of young scarlet foliage in spring which, along with the crimson stems, contrasts fabulously with the mature green foliage further down the plant. Rich white spring flowers further complement this stunning variety, which is the proud holder of an RHS AGM. Photinia 'Red Robin' tolerates a hard pruning, making it a handy evergreen hedge. It is also perfect for adding a blaze of spring colour to shrubberies and woodland areas, as well as for growing as a low maintenance specimen plant. Photinia should be planted in the shelter of other shrubs or against a warm wall in frost prone areas. Height and spread: up to 4m (13').

How to Grow
Grow Photinia plants in a sunny or semi shaded position, in any moderately fertile, moist, well drained soil. In frost prone areas, plant Photinia next to a warm wall or in the shelter of other shrubs. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Photinia shrubs at the same depth as they were planted in their pots. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil.
More Info
Water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Once established, Photinia requires only occasional attention, removing any damaged stems and lightly trimming those that spoil the shape of the plant in summer after flowering. If grown as a hedge, it can be trimmed up to 3 times a year, from late spring through to mid-August.
