Description
Mahonia are spectacular shrubs with a useful autumn flowering period, but they can be a bit of a pig thanks to their painful spikes. The difference with 'Soft Caress' is it's the first one to have spine-free leaves, so can be planted near to paths or doorways where you may brush past them. The fragrance is unrivalled too, and offers a powerful aroma for crisp, cool autumn days.

How to Grow
Grow Mahonia plants in borders or containers in any rich fertile, well drained soil in full sun or semi shade. Although Mahonia plants are hardy they will appreciate a sheltered position away from cold, drying winds. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil.
More Info
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants become established. Mahonia plants require little pruning but may benefit from a trim in spring, once the winter berries have fallen, to remove any damaged or diseased stems and lightly shape the plant.
