Description

These charming French Lavenders boast a neat, bushy habit and excellent vigour - perfect for creating a low hedge, or edging a pathway. The evergreen leaves are silvery-green and richly aromatic, with a characteristic perfume. In early summer, plump flower spikes which are crowned with distinctive bracts, rise above the foliage. The nectar-rich blooms are loved by bees and butterflies, making these Lavenders a good choice for a wildlife area. With a neat, bushy habit, they also makes fine container plants for a sunny patio. Height and spread: 60cm (24").

Lavender 'Summer' Collection comprises:

  • Lavender 'Pink Summer Improved' - A profusion of rose-pink blooms in summer.
  • Lavender 'White Giant Summer Improved' - Elegant, purple and white, bicolour blooms.
  • Lavender 'Favourite Summer Improved' - Dark violet flower spikes are topped with fluttering mauve bracts.
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow

Grow French lavender plants on free draining soil in full sun. Lavenders dislike wet ground, particularly during winter. Improve heavy soil conditions by adding coarse grit or sharp sand prior to planting. When growing French lavender in large patio containers, use a well drained soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. After planting, prune lavender plants to encourage bushy growth.

More Info
Water regularly throughout summer until lavender plants are fully established. Once established, they are reasonably drought tolerant. Immediately after flowering, prune English lavender back to within 2cm (1") of the previous year's growth to maintain a compact, well shaped plant. Culinary idea: Make delicious lavender sugar or lavender and mint jelly from the freshly picked flowers.
