Description
Cistus x pulverulentus 'Sunset', sometimes called 'Rock Rose' or 'Sun Rose' is a superb plant for gardens with poor and dry condition soil. It has grey-green evergreen foliage and from June until August bright pink, tissue-paper flowers emerge, lasting for just one day, before a new flower opens to take its place, resulting in a plant with constant colour throughout the summer. It looks wonderful in rockeries and gravel gardens. It is hardy to -5c and grows fine in coastal gardens, but the plant does do best in a sheltered position. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 90cm (36").

How to Grow
Transplant Cistus plants into borders and containers outdoors in any well drained soil in full sun with shelter from cold winds. They will happily grow in poor soils. When growing Cistus in containers use a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
More Info
Feed and water Cistus plants regularly throughout the growing season while young plants become established. Pinch back young plants after flowering to encourage a bushy habit. Once established, rock rose plants require only occasional attention. Pruning Cistus is best undertaken in mid-spring when temperatures have started to rise. Start by removing any damaged, diseased or misplaced shoots and if needed, lightly trim shoots to maintain a good shape. Avoid hard pruning as Cistus plants will not regenerate from old wood.
